Thai Karaoke bars machine
in Thailand are somehow copies of the Japanese lounges or "coffee shops" where nobody drinks coffee which came up at the beginning of last century
as it was in Japan, they are mainly known as "café" where dozens of girls hang around, some singing on a stage, others sing with customers in so called VIP rooms, help them drinking and do other things manually, they are places of having fun and relax after a hard day.
The problem with this places is, the guys who are singing usually have no idea how to sing and are often already drunk now imagine such a guy screaming out the text he see on the monitor., its disastrous to all others around, that's the reason why they put they guys into the VIP rooms, it's also more intimate there with the pretty ladies.

the show is done by the girls working there, most of them know at least a bit how to sing, although they read the lyrics from the monitor which is either at the bottom of the stage or hanging at the top of the stage.
Other variants
are exotic small huts made from bamboo palm leaves where a karaoke machine is installed and the guests select the song from a music box, again plenty ladies are around to "help" them singing and get paid for by thecustomers, it is common, e.g. in Thailand that the women
there don't have a salary,
they only live on tips and
commissions of the drinks
they get. This
is karaoke entertainment and
amazingly, lots of people
like it, in particular after
a couple of beer.

This is basically
a nightclub usually with a stage and DJ,
the idea is have fun, drink and girls. Karaoke café's in Asia are different to western countries.
In the east it's a kind of entertainment where the night ladies come in and "help" the guys singing, the whole some kind of animation first to get the guys drinking and second that they
earn money
with is by entertaining the guys and
maybe do something else, only the sky is the limit, or maybe some close
encounter in the car or at a hotel afterwards, all has its tariff and

There are no illegal activities around since drinking is legal
(some guys who are Muslim even drink tea or coffee) and that something happen
between guy and ladies can only be seen as strange by strange people. Actually
all this is a very area, some of the places are also fitted as sports bar with
some big screens at the sides of the stage where they show football from Europe
etc. everyone gets what he or she wants. This café's as they are called in
Thailand are also popular for lesbians and gays since around 30% of the ladies
are lesbians and most male singer and waiters are gay.
Even if you don't have ambitions
to be the new head of "Take That", Rod Steward or whoever,
give it a try but keep in mind there are others who may run away when they hear this smoky voice with some beer bubbles in it. The singing should always be done in a way not to bother others which is quickly done and a good idea to keep the mood favorable is, if there are others around just ask them to join.
